“Whatever you’ve been told, you’re worth more than gold.
So hold your head up high, it’s your time to shine.
From the inside out it shows, you’re worth more than gold.”
Britt Nicole, Gold
I was at camp a few weeks ago and we went on a overnight hike. I shared my tent with three other girls. Their conversation consisted of this:
“My hips are too big!”, or “my face is so fat!”, or “I hate my legs!” It made me so sad to hear those beautiful girls say those things about themselves. I made it my mission to speak love by telling them they were beautiful every time they complained about their physique. I think they were starting to believe it by the end of camp 😊.
The media constantly tells us that we are not good enough, that we are not valuable, that we are not beautiful. We see it in TV shows, in magazines, and in ads with airbrushed and photoshopped images of size 0 models. People may use their words to tell you that you’re “ugly”, or that you’re “fat” or that you’re not special.
But you know what? It’s not true.
It’s not true because you were made by the same Someone that created the heavens and earth. The Bible says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”. You are worth so much more than you can possibly imagine. You are so loved. The world may tell you that you’re ugly, or that you’re not good enough, or that you don’t have worth, but you have to believe otherwise. You have worth. You are beautiful in the eyes of God, and that is all that matters.
And you know what else? I think (and my friend (I like to think we’re friends) Annie thinks so too, she wrote a book about it) that we can change that. We can be the generation that uses words for good. We can be the generation that speaks love. We can be the generation that believes everyone is beautiful and loved.
But for that to happen, you have to start believing that. Try to tune out the lies about yourself (by the way, Annie also wrote another really awesome book about that) and believe the truth. Believe that you are beautiful and loved and wanted and special and unique and lovely and pretty and precious and cared for and amazing and valuable and wonderful and…you get it. 🙂
